The Toronto Raptors will be hosting the Detroit Pistons in their first regular season game.
The Toronto Raptors will start this season with higher expectations than last year.  The Raptors had their most successful season in franchise history this past year. They won 56 wins which resulted in another Atlantic Division title. They’ve won their division 3 times in a row. On top of their best regular season, they advanced to their first ever Eastern Conference Finals. They lost in 6 games, but, still gave the Cavaliers everything they had.
Unlike other teams in the NBA, the Raptors didn’t do much this offseason. They were able to retain one of their best players, DeMar DeRozan. They signed him to a 5 year 139 million dollar contract. Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan will play together again making them one of the best backcourts in the league. The Raptors lost Bismack Biyombo to the Orlando Magic, but, they countered that with the addition of 3 big men to help with their depth. They were able to add two rookies in Jakob Poltl and Pascal Siakam. In addition to Jakob and Pascal, the Raptors signed PF/C Jared Sullinger. He previously played for the Boston Celtics.
The Raptors are looking to make a deep run this year. The only problem is the Cleveland Cavaliers stand in their way. They were crowned NBA Champions this past season. The scary thing is the Cavaliers are even better this year. They’ve added more depth to their team. As of now, the Raptors are looking to make it back to the Eastern Conference Finals. Winning the East seems farfetched with LeBron playing in the East.

The Detriot Pistons had a successful season in their own right. They made it to the playoffs for the first time in 6 years. They won 44 games and entered the postseason as the 8th seed. They got swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Detroit is expected to have a similar season if not a better one this year. Making the playoffs is the goal. They received bad news that Reggie Jackson will be out for a month. Good news is they have a solid point guard in Ish Smith to take over the point guard duties until Reggie comes back.

The Pistons will be missing Reggie Jackson for about a month. Good news is they have a solid point guard in Ish Smith to take over the point guard duties until Reggie comes back.

The head coach of the Detroit Pistons, Stan Van Gundy is looking for this team to improve on offense this year. They had an average offense last year. Defensively they were ranked 13th in the league.

The Pistons signed Boban Marjanovic, Jon Leuer and Beno Udrih. Beno can score if given the opportunity. He will be a solid option off the bench.

Projected Lineup for Toronto Raptors

Projected Lineups for Detroit Pistons

The Toronto Raptors are favored by 7.5 points. Both teams recently played each other in the preseason. The Raptors won 103-92. The Raptors are 2-1 in their last three against the Pistons at the Air Canada Centre. I like the Raptors to win their first regular season game.

Prediction: Toronto Raptors win 101-87 at home
