For the first match of the week we have the Red Devils facing off against the Gunners. The first meeting this season for bitter long time rivals Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger. It’ll be a very heated occasion, one that sees both teams facing off with key players sidelined due to injuries.
Last week, Manchester United got back to winning ways with a solid performance against a struggling Swansea side. Zlatan Ibrahimovic found the back of the net twice. He will be sidelined for this upcoming game due to collecting quite a few yellow cards. Marcus Rashford is expected to take Zlatan’s place. If you can remember last season, Marcus had an incredible game against Arsenal where he scored 2 goals and an assist to help Manchester defeat Arsenal at home. Manchester United are unlikely to move up the standings even if they win, but they have to beat the title challengers Arsenal to stay in the race for top four.
This match is huge for Arsenal, not only will they further the gap with Manchester United if they win, but if the rest of the results this week go their way they’ll fly up to first place. Arsenal will have a tough match up against Mourinho, because even in Jose’s worst season last year with Chelsea, he somehow bested Arsene. Bellerin’s recent injury will make it no easier for Arsenal, as his likely replacement, Jenkinson, will find it very difficult to keep up with Martial’s pace and skill down the wing.
Sidelined Players for this Match:
Manchester United: Ibrahimovic (Suspension), Rooney, Bailly, Smalling, Valencia
Arsenal: Bellerin, Perez, Mertesacker, Welback
Manchester United, just like any Mourinho team, will be a very hard side to breakdown. They will try to stifle any Arsenal attack with compact, structured rigid defense. However Arsenal’s attack this season has produced twenty-four goals, the fourth highest in the league, and with the likes of Özil and Sánchez, Arsenal will try to pick apart Manchester’s defense to further increase their goal tally.
Prediction: Manchester United 1 – Arsenal 2
