Toronto FC will be looking to make history on Wednesday. With a win they will guarantee themselves a spot in the MLS Cup Finals for the first time in their history. Montreal Impact will be trying to defend their one goal advantage over Toronto FC.
Although Montreal won the first leg they weren’t able to maintain their 3-0 margin. Toronto FC scored two late goals on a night where nothing was going well for them. Those two goals were scored on the road and could potentially have an impact if the aggregate score is tied. Toronto showed their heart in the 1st leg after being down 3-0. They could have given up but, instead they fought and scored two goals to salvage a bad game. Those two goals made an ugly night tolerable.
Toronto are entering this match with confidence despite being down 3-2 . Toronto has been incredible at home. They have only lost 3 games in their last 21 matches. Toronto hasn’t beaten Montreal in their last 4 meetings. Toronto needs to put their history with Montreal aside and focus on the task at hand. Montreal has to be zoned in and not let the crowd dictate the game.
Toronto needs to play like they’ve been playing all year. I know that’s a big understatement considering the situation but, they need to remember what got them to this position.
If Toronto concedes a goal early the pressure will surely increase but, it’s important that they keep playing regardless. What happened in the 1st leg is a testament to that. Anything can happen in a matter of minutes.
Montreal needs to score a goal in order to give them a cushion. Trying to keep this 3-2 will be a daunting task. If Montreal wants to win they need to strike first. Scoring a goal will help relieve some of the pressure.
This game sets up perfectly for Toronto FC. Montreal is very good but I like Toronto FC to advance because of the away goal rule.
Prediction: Toronto FC advances to their first ever MLS Cup Final (Agg 4-4)
